Aurora Police Officer Skyy Calice shares information Tuesday at the Kiwanis Club of Aurora meeting at the Prisco Center in Aurora about the Girls Run The World (GRTW) program she implemented. GRTW is a 501c3 girls empowerment program started in 2016 at Metea Valley High School and supported by the Aurora Police Department. It serves three high schools in Aurora: Metea Valley (Be Your Own You), East Aurora, (Soul Sisters), and West Aurora (Sisters United). GRTW follows a 20-week curriculum on coping skills, conflict-resolution skills, educational mentoring, and leadership elevation. The group addresses topics such as teen dating violence, bullying/cyber bullying, self-esteem and confidence issues, dealing with different emotions, building and maintaining healthy relationships, learning personal strengths, and proper physical care. Participants learn leadership by helping charities raise money, and volunteering at supportive living communities.
