Aurora Public Art Announces Lineup for Free Youth Summer Programming

Aurora Public Art announces lineup for next week’s free virtual programs.

Aurora Public Art announced the lineup of free virtual art classes for students sheltering in place amid COVID-19 cancellations. Summer programming includes sessions across many artistic media. Drawing, painting, music, dance, drama, and culinary arts are among the many offerings.

“With two weeks left in our virtual summer programming, there’s still a little something for everyone,” states Aurora Public Art director Jennifer Evans.

Programs will be broadcast on Aurora Public Art’s YouTube and Facebook channels at 1 p.m. on the designated day. Students who are unable to access these sites on school devices may join via Zoom. Please send an email to JEvans@aurora-il.org to get access codes for Zoom sessions. Otherwise, tune in to Aurora Public Art’s YouTube or Facebook pages!

This week’s sessions:

• Musical Monday: Dance Lesson with Simply Destinee, Monday, July 20 at 1 p.m., Aurora’s Simply Destinee will teach a dance routine.

• Painting a Sunset Background with Raul Rodea. Raul Rodea (@fundthemental) will teach us how to create a sunset background by blending acrylic paints Tuesday, July 21 at 1 p.m..

Suggested materials: Acrylic paint black, violet, pink, orange, yellow, white, canvas, flat chisel brush.

• Mixed Media Dragon with Laura Lynne. Laura Lynne (@lauralynneart) demonstrates how to use found materials to create a colorful dragon Wednesday, July 22 at 1 p.m..

Suggested materials: Kids can use junk mail, newspapers, gum wrappers, wrapping paper, or whatever other papers or mixed media materials they have on hand. Basic art supplies: markers/crayons/colored pencils, glue, scissors

• Phillips Park Zoo Animal Draw-Along featuring Jen Keller Thursday, July 23 at 1 p.m.. Learn to draw a screech owl from the Phillips Park Zoo. Suggested materials: Pencil, eraser, and paper.
