The Aurora Public Library District is joining libraries across Illinois to host bestselling author Jenny Lawson. The award-winning humorist will discuss her most recent memoir, Broken (in the best possible way), and her brilliantly funny body of work. The event will be held virtually at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 30. Registration is required.

Lawson is a journalist, author, and blogger, known for her great candor in sharing her struggle with mental illness. Her previous books, Let’s Pretend This Never Happened and Furiously Happy were No. 1 bestsellers on the lists of The New York Times.

Joining her in conversation will be R. Eric Thomas, a national bestselling author, playwright, and screenwriter. Off the page, Eric is the long-running host of The Moth StorySlams in Philadelphia, and often appears on The Moth Radio Hour, NPR’s All Things Considered, and It’s Been A Minute with Sam Sanders.

The event with Jenny Lawson is presented in partnership with Illinois Libraries Present (ILP), a new collaborative effort designed to bring virtual events with bestselling, esteemed, and diverse authors to library patrons across the State. More than 190 libraries have joined Illinois Libraries Present. Funds for this grant was awarded by the Illinois State Library, a Department of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA). Event and Program Coordinator Ali Lanthrum, is excited by this programming potential. “Our partnership with Illinois Libraries Present brings unique benefits to our community. By sharing resources, we can offer exciting, high-quality, virtual events to the public that may have been out of reach on our own. We’re connecting audiences across the State and inviting everyone to share events with high-profile authors and public figures. Earlier this year, ILP offered an event featuring best-selling author, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, and in April, we’re greatly looking forward to an event featuring actor/author/woodworker, Nick Offerman and musician/author Jeff Tweedy. More event announcements will be coming soon! “

An Evening with Jenny Lawson will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 30. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. To register, visit our events page www.aurorapubliclibrary/events.org or call 630-264-4117. For those who are unable to attend the live presentation, the program will be recorded and available on the Illinois Libraries Present YouTube page for two weeks. Registrants who would like to request an accommodation may do so when they register for the program.
