Are you part of a book club and looking for an easier way to get everyone on the same page—literally? Look no further than the Aurora Public Library District (APLD) Book Discussion sets! Designed to simplify the logistics of book club planning, these sets offer a variety of engaging titles that cater to diverse interests.

Whether you’re a seasoned book club organizer or new to the world of group reading, these sets are invaluable. “Book Discussion sets have between 8-10 copies of a title, for members of book clubs to check out,” explained reader’s services coordinator, Becky Clark. “The sets are generally large paperbacks, and we offer a variety of popular fiction and nonfiction titles that are great selections for many book clubs.” For those juggling multiple copies of a book, the library even offers tote bags upon request to make transport to your next meeting a breeze.

One of the greatest advantages of these sets is their convenience. “You don’t have to worry about tracking down copies for everyone or making your book club members buy their own copies,” Clark notes. The sets are available for browsing at the Santori Library, where customers can look at book covers, read jacket descriptions, and even see how long the book is before deciding which title to choose. While the sets are housed at Santori, we are happy to send them to Eola Road Branch, West Branch, or even the Bookmobile for checkout.

This service has been a staple for years, but it recently received a refresh. “We revamped our sets to offer more new and popular titles that we felt could resonate with different book clubs across Aurora,” Clark shared. To decide what to include, we looked at books APLD discussion groups have used, titles area book clubs are reading, and best-seller lists. Excitingly, Clark has more plans that she hopes to have ready by spring 2025 on the APLD website. “I’m working on developing a webpage that will have resources, such as discussion questions, articles and author interviews that book clubs can use for their discussions.”

For those needing help selecting a title, APLD’s Recommendations page lists both the fiction and nonfiction discussion sets. Additionally, Clark has 25 years of experience in leading book discussions and is happy to provide personalized suggestions. “I recently chatted with a library customer who was thrilled with the sets I suggested for her book club. Her group is planning to read all of them this spring,” Clark said. “It’s so rewarding to see our discussion sets make a difference for local book clubs.”

Whether you’re looking for an easier way to facilitate your book club or eager to discover your next great read, the APLD Book Discussion sets are here to help.
