The Aurora Public Library District (APLD) offers a wealth of opportunities designed to support educators in their critical role of shaping young minds. We aim to inspire our diverse community by continuingly offering educational (and fun!) resources and experiences for students. From digital tools to Library tours, we are committed to empowering teachers and enhancing learning.

By supporting teachers in the classroom, we reach students where they are at. Libraries offer free access to a wealth of information, but not every child can visit and take advantage. “Providing school resources ensures school success for students,” said Senior Children’s manager Monica Boyer. “We offer databases, programs and materials that help kids learn in a fun, interactive manner.” When we make these services and materials available to the teachers, it trickles down to their students to benefit everyone.

One of the most valuable services the Library provides is the Teacher Loan Service. This program allows teachers to borrow up to 50 items for classroom use, making it easier to build engaging and informative lesson plans. Whether it’s fiction, nonfiction, or media, the Library’s extensive collection has something to offer every educator. The items are carefully curated by Library staff members and delivered directly to the school! To utilize this service, teachers who work at a school in Aurora can sign up for a one-year teacher Library card, granting them access to the Library’s collections and online resources even if they do not live in Aurora.

Beyond physical items, we offer a vast array of digital resources accessible through our website. Teachers can explore online databases such as Scholastic Teachables, Brainfuse HelpNow, and LearningExpress Library to supplement classroom instruction. Scholastic Teachables offers thousands of printables worksheets and mini-books for preschool through eighth grade. Brainfuse HelpNow has premade flashcards, interactive activities, and live online tutoring during after-school hours. If you’re looking for college admissions practice tests, LearningExpress Library covers the ACT and SAT along with the GED and has practice tests for middle school and high school curriculum. Additionally, the Library offers E-books and audiobooks through platforms such as Hoopla and Libby, offering flexibility and convenience for educators.

The Library offers outreach programs, including school visits, storytimes, and Library tours. These initiatives bring the Library directly into the classroom, promoting a love of reading and learning among students. “One of the most rewarding parts of my job is visiting schools.” said Elementary School Services coordinator, Mariana Guerrero. “I get the opportunity to spend time with students and share new and exciting books. They also love it when I bring them crafts and goodies!” Both teachers and members of administration can request a library visit and we can tailor any event to suit the needs of the students. “It is wonderful when principals plan a school visit to the Library because it shows that they know the importance of Library resources and the impact on their students’ lives,” added Guerrero. “I am very thankful for the connections I’ve made with principals, teachers, and parent, liaisons.”

By providing a comprehensive range of resources and services, the Aurora Public Library District is a valuable partner to educators in the community. Our dedication to supporting teachers and students is evident in our commitment to providing access to information, fostering literacy skills, and enriching the educational experience.
