Aurora Public Library District shelves offer classic and modern fairytales

Once upon a time, there was a magical school that provided opportunities for creative people of all ages to express themselves. A place where they could sing and dance and where impossible things happen every day. This holiday season, the Paramount School of the Arts is a partner with the Aurora Public Library District (APLD) to make that school real.

Page to Stage: Create Your Own Fairytale encourages students ages 6-12 to spark their imaginations by creating a fairytale story. Participants tell their stories by using whatever medium they enjoy, such as writing, drawing, song-writing, in whatever language is most comfortable to them. Let the magic of Cinderella be the inspiration!

Paramount School of the Arts Programs manager, Andrea Pikscher, hopes this year’s Page to Stage program will give students an opportunity to create something in their own voice. She said, “With our holiday shows, which tend to be more family friendly, we like to make sure we include activities and workshops that are specifically for younger students. We love to find ways to help the stories come a little more [to life] for them.”

Fairytale stories must include the following elements (all of which are featured in Cinderella): A festival, or feast, family strife, magical allies, jealous enemies, and a magical transformation. For those who need some inspiration, each Aurora Public Library District location has shelves full of classic and modern fairytales to help spark your imagination.

Students can submit their fairy tales in person at any Aurora Public Library District location or at the Paramount School of the Arts, 20 S. Stolp Avenue.

Students can submit online at: paramountaurora.com/events/page-to-stage-create-your-own-fairytale.

All student submissions must be received by December 19.

Students who submit a fairytale story will be entered into a weekly drawing to win free tickets to a production of the Paramount’s holiday show Cinderella for themselves and their families. Students will be picked at random for weekly drawings held on Mondays, November 29 through December 20.
