Aurora Public Library District, State Toll Highway partners

For those who frequently navigate the Illinois Tollway, using an I-PASS is convenient and cost-effective. This electronic toll collection system promises faster travel, lower costs, and convenience for Tollway users. But, due to the up-front cost and ongoing financial responsibility, some drivers aren’t able to keep their I-PASS account in good standing. That’s why the Aurora Public Library District (APLD) is a partner with the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority to provide information on the I-PASS Assist program and potentially dismiss fines for those who qualify.

The Illinois Tollway’s I-PASS Assist program enables drivers who qualify to use an I-PASS at a reduced cost with additional measures in place to help ease the financial burden long term. “The Highway Authority reached out to APLD as they are looking to raise awareness in many communities about the various ways people can manage their I-PASS accounts and tolls,” said Deputy director Tom Spicer. “They recognize libraries as being conducive to community outreach.”

Any person who is struggling to pay, or has questions about an I-PASS account, will find this partnership helpful. It is so easy to become stressed when traveling on the Tollway and have questions about unpaid tolls. But if the answers online are unclear (or the internet isn’t available to you), speaking to an expert in-person is the best and most reliable option.

There will be staff members from the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority at tables within our Libraries on specific dates for the next two months. These representatives will help answer I-PASS account-related questions, provide information on debt relief for those who qualify, receive old transponders and more for customers in both English and Spanish.

“This service will provide debt relief to some, more sustainable payment options to others and answers to questions about I-PASS for all,” added Spicer. Upcoming times at the Santori Library are Thursdays, Feb. 1 and March 7 from noon to 4 p.m. and West Branch sessions are Mondays, Feb. 5 and March 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the Eola Road Branch dates are Wednesdays, Feb. 7 and March 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

We hope everyone eligible for the I-PASS Assist program visits the Library during one of these times and is able to benefit from this opportunity.

The Illinois Tollway’s I-PASS system is a smart and convenient solution for frequent tollway users. APLD and the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority are here to answer questions and to make sure all drivers are aware of the benefits offered to them.
