Scams abound these days and consumers need information to protect themselves. Did you know the office of the Illinois Attorney General offers help for consumers, not only to avoid scams and frauds, but to help with solving unfair billing and other issues? Find out about their services and how they can help you at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 22 in a Zoom program offered by the Aurora Public Library District (APLD).
Iwona Przonak, community outreach liaison for the Illinois Office of the Attorney General, will discuss how to avoid being victimized by many consumer scams and answer questions from the audience.
Ms Przonak will discuss common consumer fraud situations such as imposters, health care scams (Medicare, etc.), donations to charities, home repair fraud, online/marketing scams, and the most recent, COVID scams. In addition, she will dive into detail about identity theft and ways to prevent this happening to you.
Adult Services librarian Janet Stephens, who will moderate the program, said “I heard Ms Przonak present on these topics at a staff development day in 2019. I was impressed with her presentation and all services that the Attorney General’s office can provide.”
In addition Przonak will present on the different divisions and programs within the agency that are available to you. Did you know there is a Crime Victims Assistance Program which helps with compensation for victims? How about what the Health Care Bureau Helpline can do to help you when you have been unfairly billed or denied a coverage?
Additional divisions and programs include the Consumer Protection Bureau’s free mediation process, the Public Utilities Bureau, the Disability Rights Bureau, Workforce Rights, the Charitable Trust Bureau, Help with Student Loans, and Internet Safety for Students.
