This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Aurora Public Library Foundation (APLF), and the celebration is well underway. In honor of this milestone, the Foundation is hosting a series of events designed to bring people together in support of the Aurora Public Library District. From heartfelt gatherings to creative fundraising efforts, each event reflects the Foundation’s commitment to enhancing library services and strengthening our community.

On April 24, APLF held its third annual Shop for a Cause Fashion Show at the Wyckwood House in downtown Aurora. There they honored longtime board member Dee Nila Basile and her dedication to the community. “The evening was truly reflective of Dee, filled with lively conversation and the sharing of memories,” shared Foundation assistant, Kathy. Attendees wore pink and white feather boas in honor of Dee’s fun-loving spirit and thanks to their generosity, the Foundation successfully reached its goal of $5,000. This money will be put towards enrichment projects in the Eola Road Branch renovations. It was a colorful, fun, and productive night!

To continue the Eola Road Branch fundraising efforts and take advantage of the natural resources in the area, the Foundation will host a Community Walk Sunday, June 15 near the Eola Road Branch on the beautiful Waubonsie Lake Park Trail. “Last year we hosted a community carnival outside the Eola Road Branch and had an overwhelming response,” said Foundation manager, Jordan Debbink-Lesniak. “This year, we wanted to try something new!” This Community Walk is an excellent way to engage with fellow library enthusiasts while exploring the picturesque surroundings. For $5 per person, participants will receive a T-shirt, frisbee, and other fun items for the family, making it great value and a perfect opportunity to support your local library.

Our goal with these events is to keep the excitement building about the renovations to our Eola Road Branch and West Branch (starting soon). “We know that it will take some time to complete these renovations, so we’re making sure to show our appreciation, provide a way for you to help, and keep our community active in the process!” added Jordan. APLF also extends a sincere thank you to their sponsors, whose support makes these events possible and helps them continue to offer valuable programs and resources.

The APL Foundation is all about helping the Aurora Public Library District thrive and they invite you to be a part of it. Come out for the Community Walk Sunday, June 15 at 8:30 a.m. outside the Eola Road Branch. Register by May 30 at aplfoundationil.org or by calling 630-264-4240. Whether you’re an avid walker, a leisurely stroller, or just want the free t-shirt and frisbee, it’s a fun, easy way to support the library and celebrate something meaningful.
