The Aurora Puerto Rican Cultural Council (APRCC) spreads holiday cheer to residents at Jennings Terrace assisted living in Aurora, Friday, in its 10th annual Parranda. Downer Place Senior Residences in Aurora was the second stop. In Puerto Rico, parrandas sometimes called asaltos in Spanish; literally “assaults”, are musical festivities in the Christmas season holidays. They are known as “trullas navideñas” and are associated with pride in customs of the traditional Puerto Rican jibaro. The traditional events have been likened to Christmas caroling, but the contents of the songs are secular, rather than religious. Jason Crane/The Voice
