The city of Aurora government is seeking the next young ambassadors to represent the City of Lights as the 2019 Little Mr. Aurora and Little Miss Aurora.
As the current Little Mr. Aurora, Jeremiah Smith-Jones, and Little Miss Aurora, Sienna Flores, prepare to retire their crowns, the registration process is open for their successors.
Formerly Miss Merry Christmas and Jack Frost, the annual competition made a transition into the Little Mr. and Little Miss Aurora last year.
The contest is open to students in elementary school who live in Aurora and are comfortable in front of an audience. Parents can enter their children by completing an online nomination form at www.aurora-il.org/TheLittles. The deadline to register is 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6.
New this year is the addition of either a student-generated short essay or student-focused video addressing the topic: Why I should be the next Little Mr. or Little Miss Aurora.
Essays of at least one paragraph can be uploaded online through the application. Videos of a minute or less can be submitted via the online application or sent to MyAurora@aurora-il.org.
Videos can be recorded at Aurora Community Television (ACTV) Thursday, Nov. 1 at 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. to noon and Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 10 a.m. to noon and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.. ACTV is at 5 E. Downer Place, Suite H on the first floor of the parking deck on Stolp Avenue and Downer Place.
From the nominations, a committee will select six boys and six girls each as finalists. Finalists will be announced to the public Thursday, Nov. 8. All finalists will be on the official Winter Lights Court in the Winter Lights Parade, Friday, Nov. 16.
The 2019 Little Mr. Aurora and Little Miss Aurora will be revealed from among the finalists in a special ceremony during the Aurora City Council meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13 at Aurora City Hall, 44 E. Downer Place.
