An estimated 3,000 persons jammed Aurora’s M.L. King Park Saturday for the city’s 24th annual Juneteenth celebration. Sponsored by African American Men of Unity, an Aurora nonprofit, the free event celebrates family, community and culture through singing, dancing, storytelling and food.
Other features were a Black history tribute, a drum and dance presentation, bingo, a chess tournament, 3-on-3 basketball tournament and craft and health and wellness vendors.

Juneteenth (June 19) marks the day in 1865 when U.S. federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce all African Americans were freed.
