Diego Campos, a senior hammer thrower at East Aurora High School, finished in third place at the United States Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. July 10, 2023. His winning throw was 184’ 10”. Diego defeated 39 other throwers from around the Country on his way to the third-place finish. In the U.S., the hammer throw is contested at the college and Olympic levels, but not in Illinois high schools.
Diego learned to throw the hammer while a member of Hammerman USA, an Aurora-based club dedicated to teaching the hammer throw. Diego has been a member of Hammerman USA for four years and is considered a nationally-ranked high school hammer thrower. He is being recruited by several colleges offering him athletic scholarships. Diego lives with his mother in Aurora.
