The City of Aurora, in partnership with the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) and Aurora Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, is excited to announce that the inaugural Chicago Junior All-Star Championship will take place at the Phillips Park Golf Course from June 15 through 18.
The event will feature an elite, 96-player field comprised exclusively of boys and girls ages 12 to 15, continuing the AJGA’s commitment to providing junior golfers with access to premier competitive opportunities. As a Junior All-Star tournament, the championship is designed to help emerging players gain experience in a nationally recognized AJGA setting while competing against peers from across the region.
“We’re thrilled to bring a new junior all-star event to the Midwest with the addition of the Chicago Junior All-Star Championship,” said Ryan Flanagan, AJGA senior regional director, Midwest. “This championship strengthens our presence in the region while providing meaningful competitive opportunities for young junior golfers.”
The Enjoy Aurora Junior All-Star Championship will be supported by a three-year title sponsorship from the Aurora Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, reflecting the organization’s continued investment in youth sports tourism and junior golf development throughout the Aurora area. “The Chicago Junior All-Star Championship reflects our organization’s commitment to supporting youth sports and junior golf development,” said Brad Banks, sports sales manager for the Aurora Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Partnering with the AJGA allows us to provide young golfers with an opportunity to compete at a high level while experiencing everything the Aurora community has to offer.”
Tournament week will begin with an AJGA qualifier and official practice round Monday, June 15, offering additional competitive opportunities for junior golfers. Championship play will run from Tuesday, June 16 through Thursday, June 18, featuring 54-holes of stroke play. Following Wednesday’s second round, the field will be cut to the top 60 percent and ties for the final round. Located in the heart of Aurora, Phillips Park Golf Course provides a scenic and challenging setting for the inaugural championship and reinforces the AJGA’s mission of partnering with communities that support junior golf and youth athletics.
“We’re honored to host the inaugural Chicago Junior All-Star Championship at Phillips Park Golf Course,” said Jeff Schmidt, superintendent of Golf Operations at Phillips Park Golf Course. “Partnering with the AJGA to bring a premier junior golf event to Aurora is exciting for our staff, our course, and the local golf community. We’re committed to providing an outstanding tournament experience and showcasing Phillips Park as a great venue for championship junior golf.”
