The Neighbor Project (TNP) was honored to present Exelon Generation with The Neighbor Project Co-Founder Award at its first “Virtual” Gala Saturday, Sept. 19. The live-broadcast/online gala set a fundraising record for the organization in part due to the continuing support of Exelon and its partners.

Starting in 2015, Exelon provided the single largest corporate investment in TNP’s mission to date: $125,000 over a five-year period. In several of those years, funds were used to underwrite awareness and fundraising concerts, or events which more than doubled the impact to over a quarter-of-a-million dollars. In addition to this significant financial contribution, each year scores of Exelon employees and their families turn out to volunteer and work alongside TNP program participants on their way to home-ownership and greater opportunity.

Rick Guzman, executive director of The Neighbor Project, said, “The founding story of The Neighbor Project is unique. We were formed by a merger that brought two longstanding partner organizations under one roof. Emmanuel House and Joseph Corporation each had traditional co-founders but the formation of The Neighbor Project was more the result of faith in the calling to serve our neighbors, belief in the abilities and potential of our neighbors in working-class, sometimes struggling, neighborhoods, and investment from those who shared our faith and belief that this was the right thing to do. And so, as an acknowledgment of their faith, belief, and investment and in recognition of the fact that The Neighbor Project very well may not exist today without them, we are proud to present to Exelon Generation The Neighbor Project Co-Founders Award.”

Senior vice president of security, regulatory and general counsel for Exelon Generation, Brad Fewell, said, “Exelon believes in the power of community. We support a world of diverse values and abilities where each one of us can belong. We are truly humbled to be only the second recipient of the co-founder award in recognition of our commitment to The Neighbor Project. While our organizations may be different, we are aligned behind our mission with the same amount of passion…[Just like The Neighbor Project] we will never stop fighting for the communities in which we serve and our efforts are needed more than ever.”

Fewell accepted the award on behalf of the 11,000 Exelon employees who are determined and passionate about providing clean, carbon-free electricity to the communities in which they serve.

Exelon Generation is America’s leading provider of zero-carbon nuclear energy, generating power that is reliable. Exelon has a balanced and growing portfolio of natural gas, wind, solar and power and customers count on Exelon for reliable, efficient, and often innovative energy production.

The Neighbor Project is a grass-roots community development corporation and HUD-approved housing counseling agency, working to strengthen communities from within. The Neighbor Project provides tools to help people escape debt, save money and purchase homes so they can be full participants in their communities.
