With a theme of “Dig Deeper and Read!” the Aurora Public Library (APL) Summer Reading Adventure this year reminds us to remain resilient in the face of adversity and of the importance of lifelong growth, learning, and self-discovery. Because 2020 continues to prove a challenge for us collectively and individually, the stories of our favorite construction equipment in Sherri Rinker’s digger classics offer readers of all ages an opportunity to reflect on the principles of teamwork and collaboration. We are excited to welcome her to the library live through Zoom at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 25 for an interactive read-aloud and meet and greet.

As a Library, it is always important to celebrate authors in the community. To our delight, Sherri grew up in St. Charles, and lives in the Chicago area with her husband, two sons and one fluffy dog. Inspired by her childhood love of books, her sons, and her 25-year career as a graphic designer, Sherri writes in hopes of making the world a little more fun and to encourage early readers, one book at a time.

Sherri is the author of five New York Times bestselling picture books, including the #1 bestselling Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site series. She was author of Steam Train, Dream Train and the nonfiction picture book biography Big Machines: The Story of Virginia Lee Burton. Some of her other titles include The 12 Sleighs of Christmas, Tiny and the Big Dig, and Celebrate YOU! Her first middle grade novel, Revver The Speedway Squirrel, will make its debut in the Fall, with a sequel set for 2021. She has formed a partnership with iconic illustrator AG Ford, an NAACP Image Award recipient, and internationally recognized illustrator Ethan Long, who is responsible for the drawings in Tom Watson’s highly successful Stick Dog. Sherri’s books are on sale at Harvey’s Tales in Geneva and Anderson’s Bookshop in Naperville.

In addition to writing, Sherri loves to read, collect antique oil paintings, cook, garden and travel.

Have you ever wished you could both hear and see an author read her own book? You are in luck! Sherri Rinker will be reading two of her classics aloud, Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site, and Three Cheers for Kid McGear! Following the stories, Sherri will talk about what inspires her as a writer, how she imagines and develops the iconic and lovable characters in her books, and the magic behind how her stories so perfectly appeal to this year’s Summer Reading Adventure theme, Dig Deeper and Read! At the end, she will take questions from the audience, so come prepared with those burning questions about her, or writing, or anything you wish to learn from this award-winning author.
