April is Autism Acceptance Month and a time to enhance the awareness and acceptance of the one in 54 Americans living on the Autism Disorder Spectrum.
The city of Aurora government honored the special month with a proclamation to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first National Autistic Children’s Week, which evolved into Autism Acceptance Month; and with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to welcome The Place for Children with Autism to downtown Aurora.
The Aurora Center, at 140 S. River Street in downtown Aurora, is The Place’s 15th location in the Chicagoland area.
The Place for Children with Autism is a full-day therapeutic program for children ages 2 through 6. It provides one-on-one support, a structured learning environment, extra-curricular activities, and social skills groups. Individualized treatment plans are developed to address the unique needs of each child and family at the center. The trained therapists at The Place prepare children with autism for the transition from our program to traditional school settings by improving behaviors that could be interfering with learning and teaching and developing the required skills for starting traditional school.
The Place has been recognized as a Top 50 Healthcare Provider in the United States by the International Forum on Advancements in Healthcare.
