Aurora Downtown will be host to its first Back to School Block Jam 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14. The event will provide a welcome to all ages to celebrate back to school.
The free event will close the street block-party-style on Stolp Avenue between Downer Place and Galena Boulevard. Three main areas will be featured in the closed-off street including art, entertainment, and free resources. Activities for all ages will also be part of the event.
Organizations will be set up with resources for all ages. Organizations will include Alive Center, A.I.D., YWCA, Talented Tenth Social Services, Wesley Preschool, The Neighbor Project, City of Aurora Youth Services, Aurora Regional Fire Museum, School District 129, and Waubonsee Community College.
The Perch will be host to a coloring table. Aurora Public Library will end their afternoon Comic Con with an all ages Cosplay parade departing from Santori Library, 101 S. River Street, to Stolp Avenue at 4 p.m.
Stolp Avenue businesses will participate.
Visiting food vendors will include Strawberries BBQ and Home Run Hot Dogs and Lemonade. Altiro Latin Fusion and Charlie’s Creamery will be open for business.
The entertainment schedule will include a dance lesson by Sunny Side Swing, Ballet Folklorico Yunen, a bachata lesson, and DJ Pena.
