The Summer sports season is in full swing:
• The Aurora Legion League baseball for boys has the best of both worlds. Even though the league teams have been trimmed from eight to six teams this year, League members are in the Fox Valley Colt Baseball League. Each American Legion team plays 10 games against league opponents and eight games against the eight teams, one each, in the Colt League. Teams from other communities are Batavia, Geneva, North Aurora, Oswego #1, Oswego #2, Wasco, Yorkville #1, and Yorkville #2. The six teams in the Aurora Legion: NewLife Mechanical, Kirhofer’s Sports, Geneva Construction, American Legion Post 84, A-Z Tax Services, Tiger Athletic Association.
• Former Batavia High School boys head basketball coach Jim Roberts wants us to know that the 2018 Batavia Basketball Alumni Golf Outing will be Friday, July 13 with a 9 a.m. start at Bliss Creek Golf Course, formerly Prestbury Golf Course, in Sugar Grove. The cost is $100. per person to include 18 holes of golf, cart, polo shirt, steak dinner. Lunch only is $35. at 2:30 p.m.. Registration deadline is Friday, July 6. Checks should be made out to Batavia Boys Basketball, for the team’s major fundraiser.
• Summer high school basketball information includes the fact that its season is winding down. The Geneva Varsity Summer League will play its sixth and final day Monday with a single elimination tournament for the 20 teams in two divisions. The final day will start at 4 p.m. and likely go past 9 p.m. at Geneva High School. Blue Division: Geneva, Aurora Central Catholic, Bartlett, DeKalb, Metea Valley, Naperville Central, St. Charles North, Sycamore, West Aurora, Yorkville. White Division: Batavia, Burlington Central, Downers Grove North, Huntley, Kaneland, Naperville North, South Elgin, St. Charles East, Waubonsie Valley, West Chicago.
• Morris Shootout Wednesday, June 27 and Thursday, June 28 has 32 teams, to include West Aurora, Oswego, Neuqua Valley, Plainfield North, Plainfield Central, Waubonsie Valley, and South Elgin.
• The West Aurora Shootout will be Friday, June 29 for varsity and sophomore teams. Varsity games will be at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. crossover championship games for eight schools to include Benet, Dundee-Crown, Evanston, Moline, Morgan Park, Plainfield East, and St. Laurence. Sophomore games will precede by one hour in each case.
• North Central College will add a 27th varsity sport, women’s wrestling, in the 2019-2020 year.
