Batavia book sale, Marmion Lenten fish fry, help raise funds

Batavia Book Sale for treasurers

The Friends of the Batavia Public Library will hold its March Book sale from 9:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 14. New and old treasures will be available among our many books for adults and children. Adult books, CDs, and DVDs are $1 each. Children’s books are $.50 each. Follow the signs to the Friends’ Space in the lower level of the Library. Funds raised will help support Library programs and purchase equipment and supplies for the Library.

Fish fry for Marmion fishing team

The Marmion Academy Fishing Team will hold its annual Lenten Fish Fry Fundraiser from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 20. Drive through, pick-up service only at 1000 Butterfield Road in Aurora. Each meal is $12 and includes three pieces of Sgt. Dotson’s Famous Fried Catfish, french fries, hush puppies, coleslaw, and a dinner roll.

Meals must be pre-ordered in advance of pick-up at marmion.org/fishfry. All proceeds will directly benefit the Marmion Academy Fishing Team.

Rummage sale for tornado victims

Aurora Advent Christian Church, 905 N. Edgelawn Drive in Aurora, will hold a benefit rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 21.

The public is invited. Admission and parking are free.

The sale is sponsored by TNT, the church’s youth group. Proceeds will help with funds for a mission trip to tornado-battered Nashville, Tenn., July 19-25.

Tori Mull, wife of pastor Matt Mull, said “Eleven teens and three adults from four Advent Christian churches in Illinois and Wisconsin have signed up for the trip.”

On saving a landmark in Plano

Arts on Fire Plano “Paint your Own Pottery” and the United Methodist Church of Plano will be hosts to a “Fused Glass Tile Project” from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, March 20, at Arts on Fire, 217 E. South Street.

The project is a workshop where each person can make two two-inch squares of glass. One will be kept by each person and the other piece would be put into a collaborative fused glass cross project. The cross would be raffled with proceeds going to support the restoration of the Stained Glass Windows at the United Methodist Church of Plano. The goal of this project is to help save a landmark, the three beautiful stained glass windows.

Project donations are $12 plus tax per person. Anyone is welcome to participate.

Simply Destinee Dancing with Stars

The third annual Simply Destinee’s Dancing With Our Stars event at Gaslight Manor Banquets will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 2 at Gaslight Manor Banquets, 2485 Church Road, Aurora. Dinner will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the show will start at 7 p.m..

The event will have a silent auction and a 50/50 fundraiser. There will be a cash bar and unlimited soda beverages.

St. Patrick’s Day Dinner in Aurora

The Fox Valley Marines Golf Classic Committee will hold a St. Patrick’s Day appreciation luncheon, with an open invitation to the public, Sunday, March 15 at the Gallery 1904, 1 East Benton Street, in Aurora. The corned beef dinner will include open bar and Irish entertainment.
