Be all you can be, you have heard since your teens,
But how can you possibly know what that means?
At that time, for one thing, you were but naïve;
With knowledge so limited, what to believe?
Career would be what you could easily seek;
Or fall into, not knowing why, so to speak.
What’s that got to do with ‘be all you can be?’
The twists and turns in every life are the key.
The competence gained in that job will stand out;
You gain satisfaction, then pleasure, no doubt.
You come away thinking how lucky you were
For finding your calling not raising a stir.
Be all you can be then comes down to one thing—
Your mind-set and competence rules everything.
Life is not just what you are capable of;
It’s more what you learn to embrace and to love.
