No Shave November, hair-raising, fundraising:
Aurora police members honor winners of their third “No Shave November” event to raise funds for pancreatic cancer research, Friday, Dec. 7. It was a spirited beard-growing competition during “No Shave November” at the Aurora Police Department when officers raised money for research in memory their colleague, Sgt. Don Corp, who lost his battle with the disease in 2016.

Officers kicked in $50 each in order to not shave during November and $7,300 was raised for the Lustgarten Foundation Pancreatic Cancer Research to cure pancreatic cancer in honor of Sgt. Corp.

The award recipients:

The Best Try (didn’t grow in right, rough spots): Mike Doerzaph;

The Ugly (unkempt): Joe Howe;

The Natural (beautiful full beard, handsome look): Jason Shettles;

The Mean (intimidating): Scott Carter;

The St. Nick (Santa Claus look): Rey Lopez;

The Don Corp (soft & luxurious): Tyler Reeder;

The Ginger (red): Eric Rappa;

The What The Hell Were You Thinking (crazy): Jeff Wiencek.

Aurora Police officers have donated nearly $25,000 to the Lustgarten group.

According to the Lustgarten Foundation, more than $165 Million has been directed to cancer research. One hundred percent of every dollar donated goes directly to research.

Recently, Lustgarten funded researchers at John Hopkins and it was announced it has in development, a blood test that can detect the presence of early stage pancreatic cancer as part of a panel of eight common cancers.
