We’re told to “Count our Blessings” at each turn we take;
To be contrite for what we have, for goodness sake.
But just what is a blessings—how are we to know?
Assumptions of what blessings are don’t make it so.
Some blessings may be what they don’t appear to be;
And others so disguised impossible to see.
For us, this practice is supposed to carry far,
But how is that done when we don’t know what they are?
All blessings are designed for helping us along.
In school, in work, in love, in hope, to make us strong.
Each blessing is designed to give you ways to learn.
So any positive outcome is what you earn.
A blessing is an opportunity at best;
And what you do with it is easily assessed.
So count your blessings, by all means, and don’t be shy.
It’s what you do with blessings—meaning you must try!
