The Aurora Public Library District (APLD) Foundation invites everyone to attend the Bookmobile interior design event and press conference at the Santori Library, 101 S River St, Aurora, at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23.
The program will include special recognition of the Dunham Foundation for its generous support of the new Bookmobile. The Dunham Foundation provided a generous grant which kick-started the campaign in 2019.
Every attendee will receive an envelope to open at the event to see the design details!
Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in signing a Bookmobile poster in preparation for the release of the exterior design. Exterior design to be revealed at a later date. Afterward, small refreshments will be served, and participants will have the opportunity to see the current Bookmobile which will be parked onsite.
The Aurora Public Library District Foundation Board of Directors re-started the new Bookmobile campaign, Bridge to Hope, due to the ever-widening educational and digital gaps made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic. We originally began the campaign in 2019 and halted it when the pandemic hit.
Throughout the pandemic, the Foundation has worked to provide literacy packets to Aurora’s most vulnerable families through a partnership with the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry, Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry, SPARK, Wesley Preschool, Two Rivers Head Start Agency and the Marie Wilkinson Child Development Center. Since April 2020, more than 15,200 literacy packets have gone to Aurora’s vulnerable children. Our next 2,200 packets are set to go now.
Delivery of the new Bookmobile remains fluid due to the impact of the pandemic on construction materials. We anticipate it to start delivering literacy next Summer.
The design is amazing! In addition to the press conference September 23, a second interior design revelation will be held at the Water Street Square Farmers Market at 10 a.m. September 25.
