Boy Scouts of Troop 43 at Congregational Church of Batavia raise the colors Monday, June 14, to open a Flag Day celebration outdoors at Peg Bond Center. The event included a tribute to late Batavia dentist Dr. Bernard Cigrand, father of Flag Day, and an appeal for support to build a $990,000 monument to Cigrand, military personnel, and first responders. Relatives of former Batavian Doris Sherer accepted the 2020 Patriot Award for Sherer, who moved to Texas. Knights of Columbus units from Holy Cross Catholic Church of Batavia and St. Peter’s Catholic Church of Geneva provided an honor guard for Batavia’s annual Flag Day celebration Monday, June 14.
