“As a resident and an educator in Aurora’s public schools, I am deeply invested in our community,” said Brooke Shanley. “For me, becoming alderman-at-large means making a commitment to every resident in every ward across the city, to be open and responsive, and to really listen to my neighbors in order to truly represent our community. It’s a commitment to work with residents to identify and address issues that transcend individual wards and affect our entire City.”
Brooke Shanley is a third grade dual language teacher and a Spanish language adjunct professor in Aurora’s public schools. She has dedicated her life and career to service, advocacy, and leadership. “What I hear, continuously, from residents is that they want an open and transparent city government that reflects their values and represents their interests. A city government in which the officials will not just hear what you have to say, but will actually listen to you.”
Brooke Shanley believes the residents of Aurora deserve elected officials who put people over politics. They deserve elected officials who aren’t in the pockets of big-money campaign donors. She believes the people of Aurora deserve elected officials who advocate for the interests of the entire community.
“I would like to thank alderman-at-large Bob O’Connor for his countless years of service and dedication to the city of Aurora,” said Shanley. “He has had an immeasurable impact on our city during his, nearly, four decades of service. I look forward to the possibility of following alderman O’Connor as the next alderman-at-large and will strive to continue providing the high level of service for residents which he has provided.”
Brooke Shanley first ran for alderman-at-large two years ago. She is circulating petitions to have her name appear on the ballot for alderman-at- large in the Spring 2021 election. If elected, Brooke Shanley will become the first woman to hold the at-large seat on Aurora’s City Council.
