Aurora families were surprised with a special Christmas message this morning from a famous movie character.

Buddy, the Elf from the hit movie and musical Elf, made an appearance on the City’s social media channels on this cold holiday morning, bringing both Christmas greetings and an important reminder to focus on safety to slow the spread of COVID-19.

“Aurora mayor Irvin asked me to send you this Christmas gram,” said the iconic character. “Be sure to gather safely today, only with immediate family.”

The Will Ferrell impersonator then reminded the community to focus on the 3 Ws: Wear your mask, Watch your distance, and Wash your hands.

“It is so important not to let our guards down over the holidays,” said mayor Richard C. Irvin. “We have to be even more creative and consistent in reinforcing the message of personal responsibility to slow the spread of COVID-19.”

Thousands of people have watched and shared the message, which will continue to run on the City’s social media channels throughout the weekend.

“My kids enjoyed this so much,” said Aurora resident Valery Montalvo. “Message received!”
