The Kiwanis Club of Batavia announce this week Cailie Fennel is the recipient of the 2020 Kiwanis Club of Batavia Foundation Award. The award each year assists graduating Key Club members in their pursuits of higher education.
Fennel was a member of the Batavia High School (BHS) Key Club for four years and participated in various service projects throughout her school and community.
“The most important thing that Key Club gave me was an awareness of what other people go through,” she said, “It has allowed me to recognize when a family or community is in need and serve them as best as I can.”
She was a part of the Best Buddies program at BHS which forms friendships and modifies a gym class setting to allow students with disabilities to play.
“Her organization was important for our club’s success,” said Marnie Heim, BHS Key Club faculty advisor. “She volunteered throughout her community and was a great role model for younger club members. She will be missed.”
Fennel will attend the University of Kentucky and plans to major in finance.
