The Aurora Committee of the Central Kane County chapter of the League of Women Voters (LWV) will hold candidate forums in Spring 2019 for Aurora’s upcoming aldermanic elections. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
The forums will be held on the following nights in the community room of the Aurora Police Department building, 1200 East Indian Trail, Aurora, all to start at 7 p.m.:
• Tuesday, March 5, 2019, First Ward and the open at-large seat;
• Wednesday, March 13, 2019, Fifth and Sixth Wards;
• Monday, March 18, 2019, Eighth Ward.
Invitations will be sent to all of the candidates to request their participation and provide complete information about the forums.
Unlike a debate where candidates address each other directly, a forum involves a neutral moderator presenting questions to candidates for their live responses. The questions are selected by the LWV based on community input, including audience submissions on the night of the forum. The forums will be recorded by ACTV and will be made available on the internet.
The LWV has been conducting candidate forums as part of its mission of voter education for decades. Founded in 1920, the League of Women Voters envisions a democracy where every individual has the desire, the right, the knowledge and the confidence to participate. The League believes in the power of women to create a more perfect democracy. The LWV is proud to be nonpartisan, neither supporting, nor opposing candidates or political parties at any level of government, but always working on vital issues of concern to members and the public.
League membership is open to women and men and the Aurora Committee welcomes all to join.
