Get ready to unleash your inner superhero! The Aurora Public Library District (APLD) is thrilled to announce the return of CAPE Con, our fifth annual celebration of comics, anime, pop culture, and everything in between. Each year, we try to make CAPE Con a little bit bigger and better and this year is no exception with a jam-packed schedule of events going on at every hour of the day for attendees of all ages!

CAPE Con will take place on Saturday, Aug. 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Santori Library. Whether you’re a die-hard comic book collector, an anime enthusiast, or simply enjoy dressing up as your favorite character, there’s something for everyone at CAPE Con. “When I was a kid, it was kind of weird to be a fangirl!” said librarian Megan Cavitt. “Things like superheroes and anime were much less mainstream than they are now. CAPE Con is truly an all-ages event, where older fans can meet younger ones, and everyone can embrace what brings them joy.”

For those looking for a hands-on experience, CAPE Con offers a variety of interactive activities. Unleash your creativity with craft and activity stations, challenge your friends to an arcade game battle or immerse yourself in the fantasy of a tabletop role playing-game. Don’t forget to stop by the Intro to Cosplay program and the Foamsmithing Demo to see some of the most impressive costumes in the /chicago area. “For the first time ever, we’ll have a professional foamsmith on site, Maker Fishmeal, who specializes in handmade, oversized props,” said Event and Program coordinator, Ali Lanthrum. “They’re going to bring some fantastic examples!” For Pokémon fans, our assistant manager of Digital Services, Elliot Witt, is waiting to meet you in battle. “I am personally looking forward to defeating any and all attendees who dare to challenge me to a Pokémon battle.” taunts Witt. “Whether it’s Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, or the Pokémon Trading Card Game, you will not be able to defeat me, but I would very much like to see you try!”

CAPE Con is more than just an event; it’s a community gathering for fans to connect and share their passion. Whether you’ve attended multiple events or you’re a first-time participant, unforgettable memories are sure to be made at this year’s CAPE Con. “CAPE Con is for anyone who feels like they belong in fandom.” added Cavitt. “Do you dress up like a Jedi? Do you have a bag covered in Sailor Moon pins? Do you dream of going to San Diego Comic-Con? CAPE Con is a celebration of devoted fans and the pop culture they love.” Our program sessions give attendees a chance to find their people. Fun memories and friendships formed at CAPE Con can last much longer than just a single day and having fun at the Library helps us bond with our community!

Like all APLD events, admission to CAPE Con is free! So, gather your friends and family and join us on Saturday, Aug. 31 at the Santori Library for a day of fun, excitement, and pop culture celebration!
