As the holiday season continues, it is a perfect opportunity to come together, reflect on traditions, and celebrate the diverse holidays that bring warmth and joy to our communities. The Aurora Public Library District is thrilled to be host to its 10th annual Celebración del Día de los Reyes Magos, Three Kings Day Celebration, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025 at the Santori Library, 101 S River Street, Aurora. This festive event invites families and individuals of all ages to explore a cherished tradition celebrated in Mexico and throughout Latin America.
The Día de los Reyes Magos celebration at APLD is significant as it keeps alive a tradition many families hold dear. This annual event has grown to welcome new participants every year, with families returning to create lasting memories. “I love seeing families come back year after year and enjoying this tradition as if they were back at home,” said elementary school services coordinator and event organizer, Mariana Guerrero. She also emphasizes the importance of hosting such events in Aurora’s diverse community. “The idea of sharing such a magical holiday celebrated by many Latinos, keeps that cultural part of our traditions alive even when we are far away from Mexico. It is extremely important to teach others about cultural traditions, such as the Three Wise Men, and to embrace each other’s traditions and customs.”
Attendees will step into a world of joy and culture. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet and take pictures with the Three Wise Men, create their own crown to feel like royalty, and enjoy a traditional treat: Rosca de Reyes (a sweet bread) generously provided by local bakeries. The program also includes face painting by talented artist Zor Zapata, ensuring fun for everyone. Each family will also receive a free board game donated by Community Organizing and Family Issues (COFI) Aurora, making the event a perfect blend of education, creativity, and community connection.
Whether you are familiar with the tradition or curious to learn more, this program is perfect for families with children eager to immerse themselves in the magic of the Three Kings. It’s also a chance to bring loved ones together, share stories, and celebrate diversity in Aurora. Join us at the Santori Library on Sunday, January 5 to embrace the spirit of unity, indulge in delicious sweet bread, and bring the vibrant tradition of Día de los Reyes Magos to life!
