Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and the Aurora Public Library District (APLD) has some exciting and creative programs lined up to celebrate the season of love. From crafting heartfelt gifts to sipping afternoon tea, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Kick off the celebrations with a Heart Coaster Craft at the West Branch Saturday, Feb. 8, where children ages six to 11 can create handmade coasters using cork and paint. “I’m most looking forward to seeing what the kids end up creating at the end of the program,” said library assistant Tony. “They’ll leave with a unique coaster they can gift or use as decoration.”

Later that afternoon, join the No-Sew Heart Pillow Craft at the Santori Library. Designed for kids ages eight to 11 and their caregivers, this program invites families to create mini heart pillows made from fleece fabric. “It’s a simple and fun way for families to be creative together,” said Stefanie. “I love seeing kids get excited about making things and having something to show for their work and creativity.” With all materials provided, this is a fantastic opportunity for families to connect and create.

Thursday, Feb. 13, families with kids ages five and up are invited to make adorable Love Bug Magnets. Using pom-poms, glue, and other materials, participants can design their own unique creations. “Since this craft is open-ended, they can make it look however they want—there is no ‘wrong’ way,” explained Sarah, library assistant at Santori. “I’m most looking forward to seeing all the cute ideas kids will come up with. They always think up something new!”

Wrap up the week with a delightful Valentine’s Day Tea Party Friday, Feb. 14, from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.. Caregivers and children ages three and up will enjoy crafts, BINGO, a photo booth, and a tea party with juice and sweet treats. “This event is about creating a joyful experience where caregivers and children can bond and celebrate Valentine’s Day in a special way,” shared early literacy specialist Gretchen. “I can’t wait to see the smiles on everyone’s faces as they create lasting memories together.”

But the fun isn’t just reserved for little ones. Teens and adults can celebrate Valentine’s Day with creative and festive activities at the West Branch! Monday, Feb. 10, at 6 p.m., join us for Valentine’s Day Buttons. Create unique, customizable buttons using the library’s button maker—perfect for anyone looking to try something different from traditional Valentine’s cards. “Seeing what photos people want made into buttons is always so much fun!” said teen librarian Cesar. Then, Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 6:30 p.m., don’t miss our English & Spanish Painting Wooden Hearts program. Decorate a beautiful wooden heart ornament to celebrate Valentine’s Day in an artistic way. With access to materials and support from our creative staff, these programs offer new skills, fun projects, and plenty of inspiration.

Don’t miss out on these heartwarming programs and library resources! To learn more about these lovely events or make an appointment for the Makerspace, visit www.aurorapubliclibrary.org or contact the library at 630-264-4117. Let the library help you make this Valentine’s Day truly special!
