Dear editor;
Here is the debate on Christmas Holy Day vs. holiday proceeds, we need to analyze the benefits derived from it that all share.
If the Pope were to mandate a change in the recognition of the birth of Jesus Christ to September based on new evidence that Our Savior actually was born on the 22nd of that month, how would this effect the world? Would the schools still celebrate it? Would businesses be thrilled by the change? Would the medical field, or the government welcome this change? I doubt it. So who are the protestors and why are they protesting. They all benefit from this Christmas Holy Day as does our county’s economy.
What I am looking for is a State and Federal legislator with the courage to propose a reform of this blessed event. Protestors, while not appreciating its religious and moral values, still take advantage of the paid time off, some bonuses, and some gifts. Do they refuse to accept the days pay as part of their protest actions?
Are they honest enough to admit that it’s all words, no actions, included in their lifestyle? Get serious!
As with smaller religious communities, a person may ask for time off to be able to fully participate in its ceremonies and prayers. There is the solution which I have yet to hear the anti Christmas voices raise.
All non-believers will remain at work on Christian holy days. Accept no gifts or bonuses and refuse to say “Merry Christmas”. All those in favor of these changes, please raise your hands.
