• Twenty-three community members, appointed and reappointed, made up the largest number to serve on a city commission at one meeting in recent history.
• Aurora Planning Commission: Appointed Greg Elsbree and Pedro Gonzales, reappointed Patrick Divine, Shanita Anderson, Donald Pilmer, Mike Reynolds, Ivan Chambers and Yvonne Owusu-Safo.
• Aurora Preservation Commission: Appointed Amber Foster and Kristin Ludwig.
• Aurora’s Grand Army Of The Republic Commission: Appointed Darlene Varney, Harry Reineke IV and Jared Ploger, reappointed Michael Sawdey.
• After approximately an hour of discussion, the Council approved 8-3, an ordinance to create a chapter 41.5 titled Special Events, designed for all event applications to be managed by Special Events Department staff members, which would approve all applications for events.
For many years, the Government Operations Committee (G.O.) gave final approval of all events. Voting against were members of the G. O. Committee, alderman Scheketa Hart-Burns, Ward 7; alderman Rick Mervine, Ward 8; and alderman Judd Lofchie, Ward 10.
