Philip H Sheridan Camp #2 Aurora, Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War will sponsor a ceremony from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 21 to honor all 338 veterans of the Civil War buried at the cemetery. There will be posting of colors, singing, speeches by dignitaries, a canon salute, and taps. The event will be along the north fence of the cemetery at the GAR Post 20 Aurora area.

Starting in 2018 to 2019 our members with the help of the cadets of the AFROTC from West Aurora High School, and the cadets from the NJROTC from East Aurora High School, cleaned, raised, or replaced all 338 grave markers of Civil War veterans. We set 18 new government markers which were missing, unreadable, or never existed. The COVID pandemic halted our plans to hold a rededication ceremony until this month. Our group restored the cannon and erected a flag pole.

• Our group will hold our annual Memorial Day ceremony at West Aurora Cemetery from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 29. At the events will be posting of colors, singing, speeches by dignitaries, an appearance by president Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln reenactors, a canon salute, and taps.
