Ten years ago, the Friends of LaSalle Street Auto Row conceived the idea of having an antique auto show to honor the rich tradition of LaSalle Street in Aurora. Three years ago, the Roosevelt-Aurora American Legion Post 84 became a partner with the group to provide honor and recognition for our veterans and those who are serving in the military. This annual event draws 100 classic and modified cars, in addition to military vehicles, from Aurora and the surrounding communities and has seen annual attendance of more than 1,000 visitors. The registration for the Auto Show Sunday will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and awards will be presented at 2:30 p.m..
“We want to dedicate the 10th Annual Auto Show to all our veterans who have given so much for our freedoms,” said Mike Eckburg, commander of Legion Post 84. “The patriotic show will have a military appreciation theme.”
LaSalle Street has become a destination by drawing record crowds every year. This year is expected to be bigger and better. All proceeds of the auto show will go to the Roosevelt-Aurora Post 84 to continue supporting Aurora area veterans and their families.
Friends of LaSalle Street Historic Auto Row (FLSHAR) has been an avid supporter of the revitalization of LaSalle Street. In building on the historical significance of this block, the members of FLSHAR have worked to preserve, improve and beautify this historic area of downtown Aurora which was formerly called Auto Row.
The Roosevelt-Aurora American Legion Post 84 was founded in 1919, and is one of the oldest posts in Illinois. Its name is in memory of Quentin Roosevelt, the youngest son of president Theodore Roosevelt, who was killed in World War I in aerial combat over France on Bastille Day, July 14, 1918. They have a membership of more than 300 members and meet on the second Friday of every month at 8 a.m. at Colonial Café in West Plaza, Aurora.
