Commentary, convivial, conscience, all may be found within this space, and likely a bit of each this week, however, space is more dedicated to full community activities, with little room for them elsewhere:
• Luxemburg descendants are found frequently in Aurora. Those with historical or genealogical interests should reserve time both Friday, July 29, and Tuesday, Aug. 2. Luxemburg ambassador Nicole Bintner-Bakshian will be at the Luxemburg Club, 416 High Street, Aurora, for evening dinner, and would like to meet Luxemburg descendants. Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich will visit Aurora Tuesday of the following week for a 5 p.m. Mass at Annunication Church, 1820 Church Road, with a reception to follow at Abbey Farms on the grounds of Marmion Academy, 2855 Hart Road. Luxembourg food, beer, and wine will be served. The admission fee is $30. Luxemburg descendants have been in Aurora for nearly 200 years. Visitors from the European country often make visits to Wisconsin and Iowa, other sites of descendants.
• The Geneva Arts Fair will return July 23-24 in an annual even that draws crowds from far and wide. It will be its second year in a row following an absence in 2020 because of COVID-19. The disease still strikes, so those attending may want to be cautious around the expected large crowd. Geneva’s art bonanza is much greater than just fair.
• Art is a part of Culture Stock in Aurora, a used book store and community enter, which opened Saturday, July 16 following an absence.
• History and sports will be a part of the Cantigny Park at the Robert B. McCormick House in Wheaton when it resumes its Headlines from History series by the authors of “Chili Dog MVP: Dick Allen, the ‘72 White Sox and a Transforming Chicago”. Longtime authors John Owens and Dr. David J. Fletcher will be speakers at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 28.
• Pre-arrest diversion forum will be held Tuesday, July 26, in Aurora’s Santori Library, 101 S. River Street and include Kane sheriff Ron Hain.
