• First Fridays in Aurora will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, May 6, so there is a week to prepare for the Food Truck Festival at Benton Street from River Street to Broadway with a variety of food vendors;

• April 28, a Thursday, will be a big day in some communities with likely good weather and festivals. The Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora will hold a drive-thru fundraiser at Advent Christian Church on Edgelawn Drive on the West Side from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30p.m.. The Kiwanis Club of Batavia will hold its fundraiser April 28, the all-new Pasta Dinner, at Pal Joey’s on Randall Road, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m..
• Will anybody visit and support both events?
• The Naperville Police Department is accepting applications for a six-week Youth Academy starting Thursday, June 16 and continue each Thursday through July 21. Applications are due June 1.
• The 14th season of Artist Series presentations at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lombard will conclude with a concert by the highly-acclaimed Chicago Bronze English Handbell Ensemble at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 1. Dance will be the theme.
• May 1 has the ring of warm weather. Finally.
• May 2 is when Kevin Leighty will begin his role as the economics development director for the village government of Oswego. He completed a two-year internship economic development in Elmhurst.
• It is gratifying to see the State General Assembly come to compromises and agreement that ended in a $45.6 billion budget package signed by the governor Tuesday. Compromises work!
• Shredding: Batavia Rotary Club will hold an event, with recycling, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 30 at Batavia Calvary Episcopal Church, 222 S. Batavia Avenue (Route 31).
• State Veterans Advisory Board aim: Rename all of U.S. 20 in the State, Illinois Medal of Honor Highway.
