Community Hero Day Oct. 4 at Aurora Fire Museum

Community Hero Day will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Aurora Regional Fire Museum, 53 N. Broadway, Aurora.

The public is invited. Admission and parking are free.

As part of its Touch-a-Truck campaign, the family friendly event will allow children and adults alike to get up close and personal with emergency vehicles that serve communities daily.

Participating vehicles include those from Aurora Police Department, Aurora Fire Department, Aurora Emergency Management, Kane County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois Tollway, Nicor Gas, ComEd, Metra Police, West and Sons Towing and Dazzos.

Additionally, the event will feature safety education speakers from APD, AFD and other agencies, free hands-only CPR, live car extrication demonstration, fire truck rides, family friendly DJ and a tour of Aurora’s Central Fire Station.

For the finale, AFD and the Northern Illinois Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board will conduct a live burn demo to show how quickly fires can spread as well as the importance of fire sprinklers in saving lives and property.
