Dear editor;

These past few years I have presented my concerns to various bodies of government in the city of Aurora government. As any good learner or scientist, I have been willing to have my hypothesis proven wrong. My questions go unanswered. Instead, they call me old, a critic, not caring about Aurora. It only proves to me that my concerns are legitimate. I did ask Ella, who is 102, if she thought I was old at 71 and she gave me a definite no.

Saturday, Sept. 21 I decided to attend an event on youth leadership sponsored by the city government of Aurora. Many of us, being retired teachers, grandmas and grandpas, are concerned for our youth. We know transitional stages are hard because we went through them, yet we feel that the youth today faces challenges more difficult that stress them physically and mentally.

I felt attending the event might give me insight. I saw it was a public event with no registration. When I got there, I was refused entrance. I took a breath and restated my case only to find myself in the hallway.

I texted a few individuals in position to find out if I was wrong about attending. They got back to me and said it was proper for me to attend. The organizer was more confrontational than understanding when we spoke in the hallway and completely misrepresented my motives. It was the typical word salad. Is this where government is going?

If there is any class or group I could attend to hear from the youth what it is like for them, please contact me. I could take that back to people and maybe we could help and understand you better.

No, Adrienne, the event was not all about me.
