Monday, congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement on the Article of Impeachment introduced in the U.S. House charging president Donald Trump with incitement of insurrection:
“The facts are clear: The president of the United States incited a violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to overturn the results of a democratic election. His justification for this incitement has been inconsistent and incoherent and has raised further questions about both his mental stability and his commitment to our Constitution. In any case, Donald Trump has demonstrated he is utterly unfit to remain in office any longer.
“While we continue to urge the vice president to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove him from power, Congress will carry out its Constitutional responsibility to hold the president accountable for his actions.
“I’ve co-sponsored the Article of Impeachment against the president for his incitement of insurrection, and I will vote in favor of it when it’s brought to the Floor.”
