The Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora, “The Club That Fights Diabetes”, invites everyone to an evening of Family Fun, complete with games, light, healthy, snacks, entertainment, free door-prize drawing, turkey giveaways every half hour, and information about diabetes awareness and treatment to celebrate World Diabetes Day, Thursday, Nov. 14, at the SciTech Hands On Museum, 18 W. Benton Street, in Downtown Aurora, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m..
Since 1927, Cosmopolitan Club members have endeavored to make Aurora, and the surrounding communities a better place to live. Beginning in 1973, the Cosmos decided to start a campaign against diabetes mellitus, and made it their principal challenge, to bring about an awareness of diabetes, while raising funds to support diabetes research, education, wellness, and treatment. The Club sends diabetic children to ADA Summer Camps, and assist diabetics in obtaining Diabetic Alert Dogs (DADs).
The Cosmo members have produced a “Diabetes Resource Guide“ which will be available for distribution at this year’s second annual World Diabetes Day. The booklet explains diabetes symptoms, tests, Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, along with medical facilities which can help with wellness education and treatment.
Organizations participating at this year’s event will include: AMITA Heath Mercy Diabetes Wellness Center, Andros Foods US, Fox Valley Park District, Pure Health, Rush Copley Diabetes Educational Center, Tandem Diabetes representatives, University of Chicago Medicine-Kovler Diabetes Research & Treatment Center and VNA Health Care. On site testing for diabetes will be available, courtesy of the Rush Copley Diabetes Educational Center.
