Aurora area residents were among 2022-2023 officers recently installed by Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora, the club that fights diabetes.
New officers were installed at the nonprofit’s June 16 meeting at Oak Street Restaurant in North Aurora.
Installation officer was Vic Smith of Newark, past Cosmo Mid-States Federation governor and an Aurora Cosmo.
Officers and Board members installed were Russ George, Aurora, president; Donna Carter, Sugar Grove, vice president; Pat Jones, North Aurora, secretary; Jackie Klaisner, Aurora, treasurer; Jimmy Schmidt, Montgomery, sergeant-at-arms; and Lavonne Hawking, Aurora, board member.
George announced preparations are under way for “A Night at the Barn,” Aurora Cosmos’ main 2022 fundraiser.
The event will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday, June 24, at the Blackberry Farm barn, 100 S. Barnes Road in Aurora.
The public is invited. Parking is free. Tickets are $30.
The event will feature live music by “The Magnetos,” a 1950s and 1960s classic rock band, food from Spartan House Restaurant in Aurora and a cash bar.
Free drawings for door prizes, gift cards, will be held during the evening. Raffles are planned for approximately 30 gift baskets, a large screen television, Chicago Cubs tickets and a 50/50 cash drawing.
Cosmo president Russ George said, “The Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora cordially invites everyone to attend our second annual main fundraiser. The barn at Blackberry Farm will come alive with an evening of fun and excitement at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 24.”

Aurora Cosmos celebrated its 95th anniversary on June 6 with a mayoral proclamation and display at the Pierce History Museum in Aurora.
Founded in 1927, Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora is known as the club that fights diabetes. In 1973, the Cosmos decided to start a campaign against diabetes.
Today the nonprofit promotes awareness of diabetes and raises funds for diabetes research at University of Chicago’s Kovler Diabetes Center, ADA educational summer camps for type 1 diabetic children, diabetes education at Rush Copley Diabetes Educational Center and helps provide diabetic alert dogs.
A program to assist RNs in becoming a certified diabetes care and educational specialist is being developed.
Aurora Cosmos meet at 6:30 p.m. the third Thursday of each month at Oak Street Restaurant, 945 Oak Street in North Aurora.
