The Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora was set to hold its quarterly business meeting Thursday, Aug. 18.
The Club participated in three awareness events the first week in August.
We started Tuesday, Aug. 2, with National Night Out at Washington Park on the West Side of Aurora. Club members Ed Carroll, Marilyn George, Russ George, LaVonne Hawking, Arlene Hawks, Jackie Klaisner, Ann McBride, chairperson, attended the event.
Friday, Aug. 5, members Marilyn George, Russ George, Pat Jones, and Chuck Nelson, put up the Cosmo tent in Downtown Aurora, for the First Fridays Block Party, on Stolp Avenue. Many were in attendance, including in our tent. Pat and Marilyn sold the winning ticket to our 50/50 cash raffle.
Saturday, Aug. 6, members Ed Carroll, Donna Carter, Marilyn George, Russ George, LaVonne Hawking, and Jimmy Schmidt, were at the Cosmo tent, at the “Race to Fight Diabetes” Awareness Night, at Sycamore Speedway, in Maple Park.
Close to $800.00 in 50/50 cash raffle tickets, were sold, all while handing out a lot of information on diabetes.
Tiffany Olson, general manager of Sycamore Speedway, had several special events to bring awareness of diabetes during the evening. Ray, the track announcer, informed race fans on Club’s efforts to fight diabetes.
The winning ticket was drawn by a young Type 1 diabetic girl, at 9 p.m..
The winner of $818.00 was Sue Underhill, from South Elgin. Sue has been a Type 1 diabetic for more than 40 years, and is a clinical counselor. She works with diabetic clients, helping with added anxiety and depression, because of the emotional stress diabetes can cause.
Thanks to all the members who sold and/or purchased tickets for the 50/50 cash drawing and the fourth annual “Race to Fight Diabetes”. Without your support, we wouldn’t be able to provide funds for our diabetic causes.
Thursday, September 15th, we hold our Annual “FALL 5B’s BBQ” fundraiser, at Advent Christian Church, 905 Edgelawn Drive, Aurora, Illinois. Setup at 3:00pm and Serving from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. LaVonne Hawking, Chairperson for this event will have tickets available at this Thursday’s Membership Meeting.
This will be our last major fundraiser for 2022, let’s close out 2022 with a big DEPOSIT going into our bank account!!
