Saturday night, the members of the Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora The Club That Fights Diabetes, held a Diabetes Awareness Night at the Fox Valley Ice Arena, Geneva, while cheering on the Chicago Steel ice hockey team in a game against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. The Steel minor league team is in first place in the United States Hockey League Eastern Conference.
More than 80 Cosmos and their friends in attendance enjoyed an evening, which included the third annual Wiener Dog Races, along with an exciting 5-4 victory in overtime for the Chicago Steel hockey team.
The Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora had a table in the main lobby area, where information on diabetes was handed out, including the Club’s new “Diabetes Resource Guide”, which contains information from the American Diabetes Association, AMITA Health Mercy Diabetes Wellness Center, Kovler Diabetes Center at UChicago Medicine, Rush Copley Diabetes Educational Center, and VNA Health Care.
The Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with more than 50 members who work to bring about an awareness of diabetes, while raising funds for Diabetes Research at the University of Chicago Medicine-Kovler Diabetes Center, help send diabetic children to ADA Summer Camps, provide diabetes education at the Rush Copley Diabetes Center, and assist diabetics in obtaining Diabetic Alert Dogs.
