Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora, the club that fights diabetes, raised more than $14,000 at its second annual Night at the Farm event Friday, June 24.
Cosmo president Russ George reported results of the event at Blackberry Farm in Aurora.
According to George, donors contributed 35 gift baskets, 25 gift cards, and cash contributions.
He added that 30 sponsors donated more than $8,000. Levels were Platinum, $2,500; Silver, $500; Club, $250; and Friend, $100.
An unspecified winner took home $750 in a 50/50 raffle.
Music featured vocals by Cosmo member Arlene Hawks who accompanied The Magnetos, a classic rock band.
To open the event, Cosmo member Chuck Nelson introduced George who welcomed guests.
Cosmos Donna Carter and LaVonne Hawking co-chaired the event.
Spartan House Restaurant in Aurora provided a buffet dinner and beverages.
According to George, four attendees expressed interest in joining the club.
He said, “We built some new friendships that will truly benefit our club.”
Founded in 1927, Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora is known as the club that fights diabetes.
In 1973, the Cosmos decided to start a campaign against diabetes. Today the nonprofit promotes awareness of diabetes and raises funds for diabetes research at University of Chicago’s Kovler Diabetes Center, ADA educational summer Camps for type 1 diabetic children, diabetes education at Rush Copley Diabetes Educational Center and helps provide diabetic alert dogs.
