In an effort to continue to fight COVID-19 in Aurora, Illinois’ second-largest city, mobile testing units will be dispatched to neighborhoods that have been most heavily impacted by COVID-19.
“As we wait for the continued rollout of vaccines, we must continue to stay focused on mitigation efforts,” said Aurora mayor Richard C. Irvin. “Getting a COVID-19 test, while following strict health safety guidelines, is a key way to help to protect our city.”
The Illinois Department of Public Health, with support from the City of Aurora, is setting up a series of convenient mobile testing units in the 60505 zip code, which accounts for 42% of all of the City’s cases across its five zip codes.
The free and convenient testing sites are available for drive-thru and walk-up clients from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on:
• Thursday, Jan. 28, Aldi, Fox Valley Flea Market, 1410-1500 E. New York Street, 60505.
• Monday, Feb. 1, East Aurora Flea Market, 175 N. State Street, 60505.
• Tuesday, Feb. 2, Supermercado La Chiquita, 651 Ashland Avenue, 60505.
Testing is available at no cost to everyone. Participants don’t have to have symptoms. A simple nasal swab test will be used, and results will be available in four to seven days. Based on the need and demand, neighborhood mobile testing units can expand into other high-impact areas of Aurora.
The neighborhood mobile testing units will operate in addition to the State’s COVID-19 Community Based Testing Site in Aurora, at 2450 N. Farnsworth Avenue, across from the Chicago Premium Outlet Mall. The Community-Based Testing Site is open seven days per week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m..
To date, Aurora has had 17,719 positive COVID-19 cases and 222 deaths.
