December youth events at Yorkville Public Library

The Yorkville Public Library Youth Service Department will have many events in December. All events will take place at the Library, 902 Game Farm Road, unless otherwise noted. For more information, or to register, call 630-553-4354 or visit www.yorkville.lib.il.us.

  • Mommy and Me Yoga, Tuesday, Dec. 10, 10:30 a.m..

Bond with your little one while exploring yoga, based on your favorite children’s books. This class includes simple breathing work, playful yoga poses, songs, games, and story time. Participants will use their imagination while increasing strength, flexibility, and balance. Registration required.

  • Junior Threads & More, Tuesday, Dec.10, 1 p.m..

Do you crochet, knit, needlepoint, sew, or quilt? Come hang out and work on your unfinished projects, show off finished projects, or check out what other people are doing.

  • The Magic of Raina Telgemeier (webinar), Tuesday, Dec. 10, 7 p.m..

Join us for this very special Zoom program. Raina Telgemeier is an American cartoonist. Her works include the autobiographical webcomic Smile, which was published as a full-color middle grade graphic novel in 2010, and the follow-up Sisters and the fiction graphic novel Drama, all of which have been on The New York Times Best Seller lists. She has also written and illustrated the graphic novels Ghosts and Guts as well as four graphic novels adapted from The Baby-Sitters Club stories by Ann M. Martin.

Caregivers and littles stop by to play at the library and meet new friends. No registration needed.

  • Spanish Story Time (Facebook), Wednesday, Dec. 11 and 18, 1 p.m., on YPL Facebook Page

  • Book Club (Grades 1-2), Wednesday, Dec. 11 and 18th, 4:30 p.m..

In this two-session book club, we will read an easy-read chapter book. Please register for both dates on the YPL website.

  • Teen and Pre-Teen Cookie Decorating, Thursday, Dec. 12, 4 p.m..

Mrs. Bethany will teach specialized techniques needed to create beautiful, delicious treats. All materials are provided except a container to take home your creations.

  • Santa Visit, Saturday, Dec. 14, 9:15 a.m. to noon.

Santa is coming! Stop by the library Saturday, Dec. 14 to visit with Santa and take pictures. Don’t miss the holiday tradition.

  • Polar Express, Saturday, Dec. 14, 9:30 a.m. or 10:30 a.m..

The Polar Express is back! Enjoy cookies and milk while listening to the magical story of “The Polar Express”. There will be time to write and deliver a letter to Santa.

PLEASE register each of your children individually.

  • Literacy Centers, Tuesday, Dec. 17 through Friday, Dec. 20.

Stop by anytime Tuesday- Thursday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to experience a parent/child guided opportunity for hands-on literacy instruction. Literacy Centers are designed to give children ample opportunity to practice the very important skills of listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

  • Artful Beginnings (preschool), Monday, Dec. 16, 10:30 a.m..

Check out this program. We will read a book then create a fun craft project. Please register. Dress for the mess.

If you have multiple children, please register each child separately.

  • Teen Holiday Craft, Tuesday, Dec. 17, 3 p.m..

Make a special craft to keep or give.

  • Crafternoon, Monday, Dec. 23, 1 p.m..

Join us for fun and crafts. We will create bookmarks to keep or give as a gift.

  • Read with Paws, Saturday, Dec. 28, 10:30 a.m..

Children can come to the library, select a book, and read to a furry friend. All therapy dogs and handlers have been certified by an accredited organization. This program was designed originally because children feel less pressure to read to a dog than an adult so, it was meant to be a way to help struggling readers or even just encourage reading. It is open to all levels of readers and non-readers. Please register for your 15 minute time slot on the YPL website. Space is limited. If you are unable to attend, please contact the library.

  • Countdown to NOON New Years Party, Monday, Dec. 30, 11 a.m..

Celebrate the New Year with us. Join us for special activities to ring in the new year. Space is limited. If you are unable to attend, please contact the library.

  • Winter READ Challenge, December 30 through February 28, 2025

Pick up a BINGO card December 30. Check out and read your books from the library to complete a BINGO. Each BINGO (max five) you will be entered into a raffle drawing for a $25 gift card. Please return your BINGO card before February 28, 2025 to be entered. The raffle drawing will be March 3, 2025.
