Democratic National Committee failed the people

Kamala Harris did not lose the election of 2024.

The Democratic National Committee lost it by not supporting her in manner conducive to a winning candidate.

The so-called “party of the people” has been inching rightward since the Harry S Truman Administration. The Democratic presidential candidates were all moderates and mostly white men, not a single progressive among them. There was a bump on this road during the Barack Obama Administration, imagine!, a person of color as president of the United States, but it was not a very big bump. After Obama, it was back to “business as usual.”

And what “business” was it?

The business of cozying up to large corporations and wealthy individuals in order to swap political favors in exchange for campaign contributions. The Republican Party had been doing that since Reconstruction and were exceedingly successful at dominating the political stage. The Democrat Party decided to play “catch-up” starting from the Truman Administration to the present day. They weren’t very successful, but that didn’t stop them. Perseverance was the watchword of the day, don’t you know?

Perseverance embraced the dictum that the only good president was a white man who was not “too liberal.” If the DNC couldn’t find a suitable candidate, they opted for someone who wouldn’t harm them politically too much. In so doing, they ignored the concerns of blue-collar workers, the rural population, senior citizens, trans people, and ethnic minorities and lost possibly winning votes.

The Socialist, Bernie Sanders, ran for the presidency, twice, under the aegis of the Democratic Party. The DNC sabotaged his campaign at every turn. Instead, they pushed Hillary Clinton onto the political stage in 2016, because they couldn’t find a white man they liked; and, in 2020, they recruited that tired old warhorse, Joseph Biden, rather than support Sanders and his “brave new world” approach. When Biden ran out of steam, they were stuck with Kamala Harris. But, they made sure that she wasn’t “too liberal” and thereby embarrass them by becoming the first black woman President of the United States. (FYI: Five white men are waiting in the wings for 2028).

And so it goes, to quote the immortal Kurt Vonnegut.

I would remind the readership that, though he may be the president-elect (which sends a shiver up my spine!), Donald Trump is not out of the woods yet.

First, he has a date with a New York judge concerning his conviction on thirty-four counts of bank fraud. He can’t plead presidential immunity, because:

(1) he was just a private citizen when he committed those crimes, and

(2) this is a state matter, not a Federal one.

I hope, however, that the judge will be lenient and sentence him to only four years in prison. The Great Orange One will likely appeal any sentence all the way up to the U.S. Supreme Court, but he will never escape the odor of his convictions.

Second, there is the matter of sexual assault and defamation civil suits filed by E. Jean Carroll. He owes her millions and millions of dollars. And presidential immunity doesn’t apply to civil cases.

Third, many cities across the country are demanding, and possibly thinking of lawsuits for, reimbursement of money spent hosting his political campaign rallies. Again, he was a private citizen at the time, no presidential immunity. Will he stiff those cities, just as he has stiffed everyone else during his rise to billionaire-ness? This odor won’t go away either.

None of the above probably does not faze him in the least. His mind is filled with delicious thoughts of what he will do on day one, once the Royal Crown is placed on his head. He has said he will be “dictator” on day one. Methinks the length of a Trumpian “day” may be four years on the proletariat calendar. He will bend his royal mind towards dealing with the “enemies within,” a list of which will grow exponentially.

That list may include two contributors to The Voice who have continually written naughty things about His Worship. They will be ratted out by another contributor who is a loyal Trumpite and who will delight in sending the naughty boys to Woke Hell. Don’t be too surprised, dear reader, if someday those rascals no longer grace these pages; they will have been “disappeared.”

Just a (final?) thought.
