Members of the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley hold two major fundraisers each year, a golf outing in June and our gala dinner in November.
This year’s “Tee Off to Defeat Diabetes” golf outing, raised close to $8,000, to allowing our Club to give two donations. A donation of $2,400 was given to Fox Valley Special Recreation Association, in Aurora, to increase educational awareness, design programs around the needs of individuals with diabetes, and help participants better understand their health needs, to improve their overall well-being. A donation of $5,280, was given to HorsePower Therapeutic Riding, at Honey Bridge Ranch, 6N917 Route 25, North of St. Charles.
In next weeks issue of The Voice, I’m writing about the tour we took at Honey Bridge Ranch and how HorsePower Therapeutic Riding helps not only diabetic children, but any child or adult with disabilities. Their therapeutic program is dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges through the healing power of the animal-human connection.
The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley currently meets monthly, on the second Wednesday of each month, January through November, at Oak Street Restaurant, 945 Oak Street, in North Aurora. Meetings begin at 6:30 p.m.. Guests are always welcome!
Members of the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley work together, to provide diabetes awareness in the Fox Valley area, while raising funds to provide aid, education, and research to find a cure for diabetes. Uncontrolled blood sugar (glucose) can cause vision problems, heart problems, nerve damage, dental problems, kidney damage, and loss of limbs.
Diet and exercise are two of the most powerful tools we have to help control our blood glucose. Eat healthy, stay active, and have a yearly blood test, to stay diabetes-free!
The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley continues to grow and welcomes two new members into our club during October. Barbara O’Neil, executive director of HorsePower Therapeutic Riding and Scott Roscoe, from Sugar Grove have joined DCFV’s fight against diabetes!
Why not consider joining our fight against diabetes? You don’t need to be diabetic, to be a member of our club! Why not attend one of our meetings or events! Guests are always welcome at membership meetings and club events! Yearly individual membership dues are $50 per year. Corporate dues are $150 per year, which includes a sponsorship listing on our website: www.diabeteshelpnearme.com.
